weddingcert
A page from the marriage register of the Catholic chapel at Killanummery showing the marriage of my Great Grandfather Patrick Kelly to Ellen Whyte of Beagh on 25 Jan 1894. The certificate says he was living in Derone (another name for Corglancy) at the time of his marriage, and shows his father as Terence Kelly.
At the time of the 1901 census my great
grandmother Mary Kelly was widowed, but had several descendants
living with her.
According to the Griffiths Land Valuations of 1857, there were two Kellys living in Corglancy at that time - James and Terence (who is almost certainly my great grandfather). Terence is shown as leasing his land from James, which again almost certainly makes James senior in age to Terence (possibly his father). A closer look at the property set up suggests that James has rented a house, offices and land from the local landowner, and has the sub let the house to Terence - confirmation of a father/son type arrangement. The Tithe Books for 1833 shows no Kellys at all in Corglancy, but there is a James Kelly in the neighbouring fields of Garvagh.
